The European Commission has appointed the Zagreb Stock Exchange as a member of the Technical Expert Stakeholder Group on SMEs.
The Technical Group is the body that aims to provide the Commission with expert opinions and analysis regarding the functioning and success of SME growth markets and identify areas where further action may be needed or where a different policy approach might be necessary for the success of SME Growth Markets in particular and for improved access for SMEs to public markets more generally.
One of the priorities of the Capital Markets Union, an EU initiative aimed at strengthening and further integrating the capital markets of EU member states, is the development of SME markets, while providing new sources of financing to these companies and reducing the cost of raising capital. The Zagreb Stock Exchange has so far been an active participant in the dialogue with European Union bodies on this topic, but we are extremely pleased to have formalized our role by being appointed to this group because it allows us to participate even more actively in creating European policies for small and medium enterprises, which are the backbone of the European and thus the Croatian economy, said Ivana Gažić, President of the Management Board of the Zagreb Stock Exchange.
The Zagreb Stock Exchange will be represented in this group by Morana Plejić, Head of Progress Market. Areas of consultation will cover topics related to legislation, taxes, listing, indices, analysis of SMEs and encouraging investment by institutional and private investors.
The Zagreb Stock Exchange’s Progress Market was among the first to be registered as a SME growth market in Europe, and is part of the development-oriented strategy of the Zagreb Stock Exchange aimed at creating conditions that can provide companies with the capital at all stages of their development, supprting entrepreneurs, economic growth and employment.
